The Australian e-business package Ezimerchant (http://www.ezimerchant.com/newezifaq.ezitpl) version 5 has a completely new pricing model. There is no per month fee for the “GTS” (secure checkout). There is also no licensing fee for software or per site you wish to use with ezimerchant. This makes it easy to run experimental sites to see if your ideas take off.

The next big change for ezimerchant in version 5 is we leave your desktop and head to the web. We will take care of backups, storage and security. You can rest easy knowing your ezimerchant stores are available from anywhere you have a web browser.

We have worked hard to add the features and functionality today’s merchants require while ensuring that any increases in cost are offset by significant savings in your time.

TYPES OF WEBSITES

HTML OR CMS?

HTML is an acronym that stands for “HyperText Markup Language” and is the source code used to make websites. When websites were first made they were static and later scripting languages were used to make them dynamic. The first animations on websites were script based and javascript is commonly used to add a slideshow of images to a static website. Flash came along and made the websites even more dynamic. A CMS is an acronym that stands for “Content Management System”, which is a software product used on websites to easily control, update, and manage the content. If you are using a website that is not powered by a CMS then it means each time you want to add any new content, products, or information then you will need to edit a HTML file manually, and upload that file to your site. This could be very cumbersome to perform an update, especially if you are editing more than one page. You can use other technologies such as Javascript or Flash to make the website more dynamic but they require understanding how to insert different effects for a website. If you use a CMS, you simply need to login to a private administration section, type in your new content, and post it to your website to update your website instantly. Therefore, when you use a CMS product to manage your website you can make updates more quickly and free yourself from editing pages in HTML

ARE THERE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CMS’S?
Yes, Content Management Systems can have many different purposes, below is a list and description of a variety of CMS’s:

CMS’s for Community, News, and Blogging:
WordPress
Wordpress is a very popular system used almost exclusively for blogging. A quote from WordPress’s website states that “WordPress is what you use when you want to work with your blogging software, not fight it.”

Joomla
Joomla is another free Open Source CMS that is built on a similar framework to Mambo. According to the developers of Joomla, it is “one of the most powerful Open Source Content Management Systems on the planet. It is used all over the world for everything from simple websites to complex corporate applications. Joomla! is easy to install, simple to manage, and reliable.” It is at www.meadowbank.biz/community

Drupal
Drupal is a free community based Open Source CMS often associated with blogging, and its developer’s state that “Equipped with a powerful blend of features, Drupal can support a variety of websites ranging from personal weblogs to large community-driven websites.”

Mambo
Mambo is a free Open Source CMS, that deals with more web content then simple blogs do, and according to Mambo’s developer’s, Mambo is a “full-featured content management system that can be used for everything from simple websites to complex corporate applications.”

PHPNuke
PHPNuke is a large community portal project that lets you manage articles, downloads, group collaborations, and many user activities.

Xoops
XOOPS touts itself as “an extensible, OO (Object Oriented), easy to use dynamic web content management system written in PHP. XOOPS is the ideal tool for developing small to large dynamic community websites, intra company portals, corporate portals, weblogs and much more”.

TYPO3

CMS’s for E-Commerce and Online Shopping:
OSCommerce
OScommerce is also a free Open Source CMS, however its uses are more centered around ecommerce, and running an online shop specifically. The OScommerce website has this to say about the application: “osCommerce is an Open Source based online shop e-commerce solution that is available for free under the GNU General Public License. It features a rich set of out-of-the-box online shopping cart functionality that allows store owners to setup, run, and maintain their online stores with minimum effort and with no costs, fees, or limitations involved”. It is at www.meadowbank.biz/oscommerce

Cube Cart /Zen Cart
Cube Cart was easier to use. Zen Cart is another rebuild of OSCommerce commonly used for its ecommerce features, and its website provides the following description: “Zen Cart™ truly is the art of e-commerce; a free, user-friendly, open source shopping cart system. The software is being developed by group of like-minded shop owners, programmers, designers, and consultants that think e-commerce could be and should be done differently.” It is at www.meadowbank.biz/ebusiness
